The first 59 pedagogical workers of educational institutions and specialists of Kopys Center of Folk Art and Crafts, the Republican Rehabilitation Center for Disabled Children, and the Nadezhda Children’s Rehabilitation and Health Center underwent advanced training on the implementation of the Green Schools educational project and received state-recognized advanced training certificates.
For the first time in Belarus, a unique professional development program for teachers has been developed for the implementation of the educational project “Green Schools” with the support of the Project “Civic Engagement in Environmental Monitoring and Improving Environmental Management at the Local Level” (hereinafter referred to as the Project). The program is coordinated and approved at the level of the State Educational Institution “Academy of Postgraduate Education”, which is legally given the right to conduct advanced training in the field of education with the issuance of a state-recognized certificate.
The program includes training in six areas of the Green Schools educational project: biodiversity, energy conservation, water conservation, waste management, air quality, information and environmental activities to work with the local community. The developed program is designed for 80 academic hours. Of these, 40 hours are devoted to independent work of students using the materials of the distance course.
Specialists of the state educational institution “Academy of Postgraduate Education”, educational institution “Republican Center for Ecology and Local History” and the institution “Center for Environmental Solutions” were involved as teachers.
For the first time, this advanced training program was completed by employees of 24 pilot sites of the Project. The distance course was held from March 16 to May 3, 2020. The on-site part of the program took place from August 17 to 21, 2020. To date, the curriculum for the first enrollment has been completed in full.
This advanced training program is included on a budgetary basis in the Plan for advanced training of executives and specialists for the 2nd half of 2020 of the Academy of Postgraduate Education. The training will take place from October 12 to December 4, 2020 for preschool teachers and primary school teachers. This program will significantly improve pedagogical practice within the framework of the educational project “Green Schools” and will contribute to environmental education and upbringing in the Republic of Belarus.
The advanced training program for teachers and specialists in the implementation of the educational project “Green Schools” was developed with the support of the Project “Civic Engagement in Environmental Monitoring and Improving Environmental Management at the Local Level”, funded by the European Union and implemented by the UN Development Program in partnership with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus and with the support of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus.
